I shouldn't blow my own trumpet about this, but lately I have been studying yoga and now I can finally reach, so why not? Anyway, my own candidate for "filthiest book" of recent times is my own Mister Gum. The second edition is finally available. Here's the cover:
And here's ordering information: http://www.doghornpublishing.com/mister_gum.html If you purchase this book, you will be opening the floodgates of ultra-obscenity, I assure you. But it's not just obscene for the sake of obscenity. No, it's philosophically obsecene. Plus it reeks of satire, general and specific, on the writing world. Buy this book and help to raise my airfare to India at the end of this year! If you like me, you'll be helping to send me on my way. If you dislike me, you'll be getting rid of me. It's a win-win situation, pals! |

That's an amazing cover, Rhys - who did that? Not sure obscenity is my thing (believe it or not! ) but good luck with the book anyway. Why are you going to India? It sounds like it might be a one-way ticket you're after! |

This cover is a painting by an old dead chap called Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Check out his other paintings, they are all amazing! Caroline: yep, a one-way ticket is all I require at this stage. |

Stevie - we were both thinking that at the same time. As you say, great minds! Rhys - I thought I'd seen that painting somewhere before. Must check him out ... But, oh no - a one-way ticket! Hope you do decide to come back to us. |

I was immediately reminded of Dali, call it the lobster effect, and, on checking, I'm not surprised the man was a fan, and indeed the rediscoverer, in the early 20th Century, of this rare Italian bizzarist painter of the 16th Century! I am impressed and intrigued... always the best way to discover new artists (in any medium). |

Having read the first edition, unless this version is considerably filthed up I wouldn't describe it as filthy. Ribald, yes. Rude, even. Rich in surreal double (or triple) entendres, for sure. And very funny indeed. But not filthy by my standards. But then, I'm a degenerate. |

Clearly I'm out of my depth when it comes to being filthy! Which is weird bearing in mind that the CIA recently refused to brainwash me, despite my numerous requests -- they said it would take too much soap powder. I'll accept "rude" and "ribald" as substitutes, though! |

"The Workshop of Filthy Creations" was a nice phrase from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein - one that gave birth to the Internet Forum of that name. Concupiscent, Rhys? |
