Anyone else seen this yet? Can't see this being topped by any other film this year. I urge you all to see this, on the big screen if possible. |

I've seen it. But other than "It's well-made and acted" I don't have anything else positive to say about it. |

We saw it a couple of weeks ago and thought it was great fun - an utterly bonkers, barking mad ballet-horror movie - the kind of thing Dario Argento would have directed in the 1970s if he'd been given an A-List cast complete with ultra toned / uber scrawney Natalie Portman, fantastically OTT Barbara Hershey doing her best Mommie Dearest impersonation and Vincent Cassel as the only heterosexual French choreographer ever. Great music and good use of CGI too. We loved it. Weird it's up for Oscars though. |

Mark Kermode drew parallels with Argento's work in his review too, as well as with many other films. He loved it. |

If Cronenberg would ever direct a ballet movie, it would be like this. |

I quite liked it. But for me it felt a bit stiff, like the ballerina. I kept getting the feeling it wanted to relax but wasn't able. Also, for a 'masterpiece' there were a lot of formula jumps accompanied by little sounds that you only get in run-of-the-mill horror movies. I'd've been happier if it were either cruder or more polished, if that makes sense. Also I kept thinking it might have been a Lewton film if it had been just a little warmer and less graphic. |
