I hope I'm OK to post this link to the trailer for The Wicker Tree, as I think this is an official trailer? Hope so, anyway! Gary - if I've done wrong, spank me!

This is the film based on Robin Hardy's book "Cowboys for Christ". It's been a long time coming, due to funding problems I think.

I saw him a few years ago at the Fantastic Films Weekend, bought and read the book (and got it signed, of course!) - quite good. It looks from the trailer like they've done well with the film. Looking forward to seeing this ...

Thinking of Christoper Lee, a well-deserved and long overdue BAFTA Fellowship for this screen legend:

Whoops, that should be Christopher Lee, of course.

Also, just to clarify, he only has a cameo role in the new Wicker Tree film. I think when Hardy first proposed the film, Lee was up for the starring role. But it's taken so long to come to fruition, and his health is clearly poor now, that this wasn't possible, sadly.

Spank you? No, that's a different thread started by Ramsey, I think.

I just wish they'd stuck with the original title as 'The Wicker Tree' sounds a bit naff to me.

I think they wanted people to associate it more closely with The Wicker Man, Stevie. From what I gather, it was the film company/funders who wanted the name changed as they thought more people would be likely to want to see it if it was instantly recognisable as a "sequel" to The Wicker Man. I seem to recall reading somewhere that with a name like Cowboys for Christ people might think it was a Western!

'Cowboys For Christ' is an excellent title imo but I thought that was probably the case, Caroline. I'm sure any of us here could come up with something a bit more imaginative and punchy than 'The Wicker Tree' though...

I had the same problem with Blatty's excellent adaptation of 'Legion', that the execs insisted be called 'Exorcist III' - thereby sanctioning the unrelated and artistically redundant sequel by John Boorman.

But then I'm a pedantic sod lol.

Blatty tried to get it called The Exorcist 1990 but the execs insisted on Exorcist 3.

Possibly if he'd used the year then the US audiences would have thought they'd missed 1988 of the sequels...
