Popped into London this afternoon, ostensibly to blow that old harp at the very excellent "Ain't Nothing But Blues" Bar in Carnaby Street - how insufferably cool am I? Just popped into London, I mean, hey man...

It was a great jam session I have to say and all the players there were simply incredible - and it was free! I was invited to accompany a couple of contributors which is always a great experience, especially when the harmonica honking goes right (it doesn't always, not by a long shot).

Anyway, the point of this posting. The session ended at about 6pm so I wandered into the West End for some food and ended up grabbing a last minute ticket for "The Children's Hour" which is a play starring Kiera Knightly (dear God she's skinny)and the actor who plays Peggy in "Mad Men". I must say that I found a lot of the first act a trifle irritating, but at the end, in the last moments before the interval the play suddenly exploded into something much darker and more sinister, especially for me, a teacher for whom the play's central event is one of my worst professional nightmares.

The second act was very powerful and left me with that feeling that this is how I want to write but can never quite get there. The darker side of real life is coming to intrigue me more than the supernatural and this was a fine example of how terifying this can be.

See it if you can.

Cheers
Terry

That's an excellent movie too. It was directed by William Wyler in 1960, sporting memorable playing by Audrey Hepburn and Shirley Mc Laine.

I love that movie... incredibly disturbing and powerful.

I saw it once as a teenager and the sheer nastiness of what is done to the main protagonists has haunted me ever since. Scarier than any "evil child" horror because it is so real.
