So we've celebrated the long Bank Holiday weekend with a viewing of the Bronx Warriors box set that comprises Bronx Warriors, Bronx Warriors 2 and The New Barbarians, prime examples of what kept independent video shops going in the early 80s, and what (interestingly) led to Entertainment in Video becoming Entertainment Films Distributors who handled The Lord of the Rings pictures among others on these shores.

They're all a load of rubbish, but rubbish in that early 80s Italian way that will have certain folks just that tiny bit misty eyed for those halcyon days where a ruthless street gang could use makeup and tap dance, another could look like a very gay version of Judas Priest, and instead of a wooden hero you got one that looked as if he had been moulded out of rubber and plastic.

There are lots of familar faces on screen and on the credits if you're a fan of this kind of thing, but Lady P & I could not for the life of us work out if these movies (especially The New Barbarians) had a strong positive or anti gay vibe. Barbarians is the only Mad Max rip off I've seen where the heroine doesn't get raped or molested, but the hero does, by the naughty male-only Templars. Then the hero comes back to get the villains wearing see-through plastic body armour that he must have picked up from the same place they all buy their black leather codpieces.

Anyway, by Sunday evening Lady P had had enough of all this macho posturing and insisted we watch Reform School Girls, but that's another story...

Are you also planning a viewing of Atlantis Interceptors?

We don't have that one! In fact I don't think it's available on DVD

It doesn't seem to be, and I certainly would never suggest searching for it on Google Videos...
