Finished the first draft about ten minutes ago! Feel drained, teary, bereft and triumphant. None of which will last long once the rewrites start. Now I'm ordering pizza. |

Huzzah! Sadly, the pizza-induced indigestion will probably last, judging by my personal experience with draft-finishing meals. |

Good work, Simon! Everything you've told me about this project sounds ambitious and serious. I think it will mark a step-change in your reputation. |

Um... just re-read the MS and its seems to consist of the words 'we buy any car dot com' written over and over and over again for about 500 manuscript pages... Oops. |

Did you know that in The Shining (Kubrik's version) when we see the manuscript consisting solely of "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy", it genuinely was 5 or 600 pages of the same liine typed over and over. Some film makers would have had about 20 and just stuck a blank ream of A4 under it. And this was in the days before it was possible to just print it out en masse easily. They were genuinely hand typed pages. |

Ah, but I bet he wasn't wearing a tutu when he typed it. Some projects just require tutul dedication on the part of the artist. (I'll get me coat.) |

I hope it's a long coat. The sight of you in a Tutu would probably scare people more than anything in your books |

Absolutely. Most tutu suppliers don't cater to chaps of my dimensions. (Stevie... I'm now planning a new horror story: we've had the Woman In Black... now meet the Lady In Red.) |

My author copies just arrived today. They are gorgeous, beautiful, fandabidozi and rather nice. Mr Oliver is a mensch and a very cool dude to boot. I am rather happy. I believe that pretty much covers it.

First advance review of The Faceless is up... it's a really good one. Feel quite stunned and dizzy, in the best possible way. Many quoteable quotes, but 'The Faceless is an excellent horror novel,' pretty much sums things up. Off now to potter vaguely around the house with a rather big stupid grin on my face... http://www.graemesfantasybookreview.com/2012/01/faceless-simon-bestwick-solaris. html |

Reading this for review and actually had to put it down last night as I was it was giving me the creeps. Partly down to a lack of heating due to boiler malfunction but still the last novel to actually effect me enough to make me put it down was Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill. ( The old guy with the scratched out eyes in a rocking chair, if you happen to have read it) |

The Faceless has now been released in the UK. It came out in the US on the 31st. I have celebrated with a very large Chinese takeaway. I will now try to shut up about it. That is all.

Earlier this year, I read an extract from The Faceless at the Manchester Book Fair. For anyone who wants to be horrified by the author rather than the contents, here's a video of it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=H_HfUvCZYuQ |

The Faceless is number 2 on my TBR pile after Adam Nevill's Last Days. Only 100 pages left of Under the Dome so hopefully I'll be starting on that by the weekend. |
