I wish I hadn't seen that, Tony. The photo is enough by itself - I couldn't watch anymore.
I don't give a fuck what benefits we may get from it, experimentation on living sentient beings should never be allowed to happen and must not be tolerated if we are ever to amount to anything as a species. Cruelty is an abomination, whatever form it takes. The urge to inflict unimaginable suffering on defenceless animals is only one step away from doing the same thing to people, whether it be in the name of scientific "progress", Nazism or psychopathic sadism. If they could they would and it is only because of moral progress through the fight for human rights that they are no longer allowed to. Respect for animal rights and the dignity of all life is the next big step we need to take.
Funny I'm reading about this in C.S. Lewis's 'That Hideous Strength' at the minute and he is particularly forceful in his condemnation of vivisection - with the loathsome experiments of The NICE providing some of the most horrific imagery in the book. |

People forget that the fact we get upset hearing about the experiments is also cruel. It's like when people we know are being made miserable by their wives or some such, and we've never met these wives. I've actually been really upset hearing things friend's relatives have done, gone round moping for ages. These acts create a kind of psychic muck. |
