My wife and son Tristan are doing a charity half-mile swim and have been training for weeks in an icy lake. I'm very proud of them as they've managed to do this distance while practising. I hope this is ok to post here. http://www.justgiving.com/Marie-Lovell (For what it's worth Marie says she knows times are tough and that even coppers would do, if anything at all. Also people are free to come and watch and cheer them on on the day, if they like.) Thanks folks! |

Weber - this is so kind of you. It means loads to them but also me too. Thank you so much - and you helped nudge them over their target! Oh, I haven't made it clear but for anyone else the charity's Mind. Thanks again... |

I've popped a fiver on too Tony - a very worthy cause. Best of luck to them both from me. Hope they don't see the sea monster (unless it's from a safe distance) |

Don't worry about the monster. It's only a giant sturgeon and they don't eat people, as far as I know... |

The sooner we reach the target I can let them out that icy lake, too. They're getting very blue and crinkly. |

Huw - thank you very much for this. Hope you are keeping well. Anyone who fancies donating, my missus says she is not after massive amounts and that even a pound would do. I know I've gone on about plugs before and I know it's off topic but my wife finished three quarters of a mile swim across a windy choppy freezing lake yesterday. It's hard work this challenge! This'll be my last plug - I promise. And do feel free to ignore - I hate this sort of thing myself! |

Have they done it Tony? The swim? I wasn't sure when it was happening. Good on them both. |

You're welcome, Tony! I think it's great that they're doing this, supporting this cause. |

Rather than start another thread - One of my friends is training for the Coast to Coast walk/run across the North of England. His justgiving page is here http://www.justgiving.com/Luke-Howard1 and he's raising money for the Red Cross. I hope some people here can help him out... |

Weber - I'll try and put something in soon. My wife and kid are doing the swim on Sunday - 8.30 a.m. It'll be bloody freezing. Anyone who wants to come and cheer them on are welcome. I wouldn't mind doing this walk myself. |

Tom and Luke finished the coast to coast walk in 4 days, 17 hours and 56 minutes (approximately). The last 80 odd miles were walked with less than 2 hours sleep. |
