It's almost here! Bradford's Fantastic Films Weekend at the National Media Museum:
http://www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/nmem/fantastic/2011/

And it's going retro! Hammer! Amicus! Yummy! (sorry about all the exclamation marks but I'm getting over excited)

Here's the blurb:

"Our tenth edition is deliberately retro in mood. Wallow in the blood-soaked delights of a gaggle of female vampires, and some of the best from Hammer and Amicus.

Meet special guests Peter Sasdy and Jonathan Miller, and re-acquaint yourselves with Messrs Cushing, Lee and Price, the latter celebrating his centenary in 2011.

With the deaths of Ingrid Pitt and Roy Ward Baker we bid farewell to two old f(r)iends with screenings of their films. We bring you a mini tribute to Vincent Price and are proud to present a rare treat, The Karnstein trilogy.

Seen them before? Then watch them again where they should be seen: on the movie screen. In the dark. With friends. Or strangers.

Feel the fear...

Tony Earnshaw
Artistic Director, FFW"

Oh, almost forgot to say, it's 10-12 June. Hope to see some of you there?

Er .. OK .. so I'm the only one getting excited about this then ...

(cynical attempt to bump it back up to the top in case anyone missed it first time - I've nothing to gain from it, just thought someone else here might be interested - my tickets are booked, and I'm happy!)

I would - but money...

FFF in Manchester is looking dubious at the moment. Although I could drop subtle hints to my mother to get me ticket and hotel as a birthday present... it's my birthday that weekend.

It's not that expensive if you only go to one or two films. I've booked for five (or is it six?) - just £29. A film is only around a fiver. Plus the "TV Heaven" events are free. Of course, if you go to the whole weekend it's expensive with a pass, but you can buy the odd film/interview entrance on its own.

Of course, I have the advantage of living here - don't need to book a hotel or anything - but if you can pop over to Bradford for one or two films/talks, I'd really recommend it.

I'll buy a drink for anyone here who meets up with me there!

Well, my offer of a free drink (see above) seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

Anyway, FFW starts tomorrow and I'm looking forward to a Peter Sasdy day then, with a couple of his films and seeing him do an on-stage interview later. Oooo, I must look out my Hammer House of Horror video - I may try to see if he'll sign it for me!

I'll report back here some time over the weekend if I can and give my views on FFW so far ...

If anyone here does go, look out for a plump, middle-aged, curly grey haired lady with a pained expression on her face. Ask her for a drink. It might be me (mind you, it'll be funny if it isn't! )

Plump, middle-aged, curly grey haired ladies always buy me drinks...

I was hoping to pop along, but I have a full dance card for the next couple of months.

sorry
