Yes, Hawkwind landed in the Wateride Theatre in Aylesbury tonight and I've just made it home, ears ringing and my old rocker's heart singing. I guess they've all gone back to the planet Zog in their silver machine for a well earned cup of cocoa and a rest. If the average audience member age was 55, the average musician age must have been 90! Last (and third) time I saw Hawkwind was in 1976, fronted by the late. great Robert Calvert. Best of all the support act was the wonderful Wilko Johnson, accompanied by the bass player from the Blockheads. |

Nice one, Terry! Must be getting on for ten years since I last saw Hawkwind play, although I've seen Nik Turner's Space Ritual play Manchester Academy a couple of times. Good to see them still going. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXUd_jV-0eE |

Aw, brilliant, Terry. I used to have great fun in and around the Aylesbury/Tring area going to concerts when I was at college near there in the 70s. Saw some amazing bands there - Tangerine Dream, Sailor, et al. Great times! I've never seen Hawkwind live but I bet they're great. Do they always do Silver Machine for their encore? The synthesiser sounds on that track always sends shivers up and down my spine - I love it! |

Saw Hawkwind a few years back (at the RFH of all places!) and they were ok - earlier in the late 'eighties and through the 'seventies at Hammersmith I saw them loads and they were great. I'm also a huge fan of Wilko Johnson - the man can do no wrong so far as I'm concerned; last time I saw him was at the Brwery Arts Centre in Kendal and we were standing five feet from the stage. He's had Norman Watt-Roy with him for many years now, although I think he's changed drummers a couple of times. Simon - we saw Nik Turner's Space Ritual play at the Boom Boom club last year, a live music venue in the bar of our local football club - they were wonderful, I thought, although Debbie wasn't too keen! |
