Ha, one of my colleagues at work today, in a discussion about music, brought up the subject of Amy Winehouse. I couldn't help myself. I said in as neutral a voice as possible "Did you hear she just turned down 3 gigs in Iran..." etc Surprisingly it got a big laugh rather than earning me a slap | ||

No, that was just setting up the punchline. But yes, puns are a matter of correct timing and catching the audience off guard. So your more general point about not waving a flag is valid. Indeed I suggest we re-assign this thread to the topic of comic timing. | ||
