I think this is one of the saddest documentaries I've ever seen. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b011vnls These kids are 'chavs', or at least some of them are. It doesn't look like a fun life choice. What shocked me was how articulate they are, how in touch with the news and politics. Cameron should leave on the strength of this. |

I agree , Tony - one of the little girls was right up to date with the political situation and seemed as bright as a new button. However...why do these familes living in poverty always have 3 or 4 kids? We have one kid, because despite both my wife and I being on decent salaries, we decided that we weren't in a strong enough financial position to give an adequate start in life to more than one. We strugged like fuck to work full time, pay for child care, and make sure we nurtured our infant son. We didn't expect help from anyone. To be honest, the programme annoyed me. A lot of these people seem to think that it's the responsibility of the state to provide for their endless kids. Un-PC rant over. |

> A lot of these people seem to think that it's the responsibility of the state to provide for their endless kids. It wasn't so long ago that the government actually issued the message saying that if you were producing children you were helping the (future) economy by creating workers. So the government has partly got itself to blame. Governments ought to stay out of things like this anyway. It's none of their business. I have no children because I can't afford even a single one (plus I don't like responsibility). That wasn't an un-PC rant really, Gary; or if it was, then un-PC must be good. The citizens of the UK need to start being a bit more self-reliant and less dependent on the state. Eventually, when we're back in control of our own lives, we'll be able to tell the state to fuck off. |

Eventually, when we're back in control of our own lives, we'll be able to tell the state to fuck off. Yep. It's all about taking personal responsibilty for your own life. Or at least trying to. |

Fuck the state. Total self-employment. Small time entrepreneurs in cottage industries. Arts and crafts and pure scientific research. Arse bollocks to state socialism. Knob cocks to the corporate world. Epicurean lifestyles, togas for men and women with ringleted hair and sandals that lace up to the knee. Regular symposia with lots of wine. Self-reliance. Three hours work maximum per day. Permaculture. Viridian design. That's what I want. |
