Tonight's film double bill will be The Hidden (the Kyle MacLachlin film from the 80's that I've somehow never seen), followed by Bronson. Or maybe Bronson followed by The Hidden. I've not decided. |

I have fond memories of The Hidden - a great little potboiler with some effective scenes. Loved Bronson. Tom Hardy is astonishing. |

Love The Hidden. Jack Sholder used to be a cracking director- he also directed the mesmerising By Dawn's Early Light. |

On a whim I switched Bronson for Stepfather 2 - just because it was on top of the DVD player already . Terry O Quinn really was rather marvellous as the Family Man killer. I still can't hear the Campdown Racers whistled without seeing that opening scene of the first film in my head. Number 2 isn't as good as the first. The violence isn't as convincing (even though there was more of it) and the story is pretty much just a retread of the first But TOQ is still perfect in the role and concentrating the seduction and build up to the wedding rather than jumping straight into a whole new family was a nice touch. The late Jonathan Brandis puts in a great little performance too. The Hidden was fantastic! Any film where an alien parasite turns people into out of control killers with a taste for ferraris and heavy metal music is going to be a winner in my books. The creature is suitably disgusting and thankfully not overused. All in all a great little double bill. |

Since you just saw it Weber, you'll remember correctly the line in STEPFATHER 2 that made me laugh - towards the end, when he's screaming at his new wife - [as if she made him do something loathsome:]"I HAD SEX WITH YOU!" |

It was "I even had sex with you". And yes, to him, sex before the marriage is loathesome. It's got to be the most extreme case of pre-wedding jitters in film history, when she's sat at the back of the church, looking at the wine her recently deceased best friend's family just sent - and she hears her son whistling campdown racers... |
