I've only just caught up with this - it's completely fab!
The first ep, about the killer 'Spring Heeled Jack' was just SO frightening (the second - more action orientated- a little less so)! Me and Tris watched it and were more exhilarated and involved than we were with the whole run of Who this year. It probably is daft rubbish but just so entertaining.
It's odd, people complaing in the past that it's too grim; it sort of is, but in context, as a the fantasy that it is, it isn't - it operates on the level of Red Riding Hood, and that can never truly disturb, just engage with one's imagination and press various (deep/simple)buttons. It's not the news, it's folk tale.

I fancied watching this, because I missed the last series, however I never seem to have the time to watch TV these days...I miss everything. I don't even know which nights things are on, because whenever I do catch trailers for shows, they're like anti-trailers: never tell you when the thing's on, or what time, and because we have all these channels these days you never even know what channel you've caught the trailer on.

Rant over.

Zed - Tuesday night, 9.00. It's bloody brilliant. Your new favourite series!
It's mad. But great. And not at all realistic. Imagine if Ramsey wrote Cracker.
Yes - really.

Ha! I was just thinking the same thing, Weber. It's good to see Idris Elba in another high quality television show. He was superb as Stringer Bell in The Wire, and also in the earlier series Ultraviolet.

I thought Stringer Bell was Margaret Rutherford's husband. I wondered what was going on.

I completely agree Tony! The first episode with the 'Mr Punch' masked killer committing a murder live over the internet was extremely frightening and disturbing. This weeks episode toned the horror down but was still enjoyable.

My God! This was fantastic! I don't know why this is getting bad reviews as it's now by far the most fun you can have watching television. SO scary and atmospheric, so twisty.
It's the little things it does best, a little look on a bad guy's face that makes us just sympathetic enough for us to feel a little pang of regret when he dies and not the full glee we were anticipating, the camera dwelling on the girl coming out of a shop, her look and sense of loneliness and what she's done with her life completely palpable, the guy on Luther's team saying 'In my spare time I read Fantasy novels'. The cast is uniformly superb, I must say - just the right oddness about the faces, the layers to the characters that stops them being entirely good or bad. It's absolutely stunning.
And I must say, it knocks Who into a cocked hat. In fact it strongly resembles Who when it was good, straightforward, familiar but playing with expectation. Hell, the girl in this would make a stunning assistant, too, albeit a prostitute one.
I LOVE this series!

Last night's episode was fantastic. The whole 'Hammer attack' sequence was terrifyingly real. And the killer himself is a wonderful enigma with those dice. Shades of the coin flipping decision process out of 'No Country for Old Men' but much much worse since the killer doesn't even speak to his victims here. His visit to the corner shop was intense. The actor playing him has me scared to death of his unpredictable violence and he hasn't uttered a word !
