I thought it was great last night. Mumford & Sons, U2, Morrissey, Fern Cotton, Laurel Laverne, the rain...

Christopher Shale dies in toilet at the Festival.

Coldplay were better than U2, grievous as this feels to admit.

Of all the artists mentioned so far only Morrissey does it for me. I abhor Coldplay.

There's a snippet on YouTube of Chris Martin in a tv studio playing a piano so horribly bad it seems highly improbable he would do it better live, with all the jumping up and down and running to and fro.

We've tivoed the whole thing and if past years are anything to go on we'll be working our way through it for the next month or two.

So far I haven't been wowed by anything, but I enjoyed seeing the Primals do Loaded. I remember seeing them play it at a gig in Lille, round about the time of Give Out But Don't Give Up, and half an hour before he was due on stage Bobby Gillespie was passed out on the steps outside the venue...

Being wasted on stage was a phase the Primals went through, but they cleaned up and wrote some powerful anti-drug songs as well as songs of political militancy – that was when they were at their best, I think, not just mimicking their heroes but leading their audience forward.

Primal Scream rock! I think they peaked with 'Vanishing Point' but never released a bad album. Never got to see them live sadly.

Not even Sonic Flower Groove?

The funny thing about Screamadelica is that it was preceded by not one but three flop singles, and yet became a massive hit. You won't often get a clearer example of something being greater than the sum of its parts.

I have everything on CD up until 'Riot City Blues' and got a great fondness for the naive authenticity of 'Sonic Flower Groove' and its follow-up. They were always in touch with the zeitgeist through the 80s & 90s and released consistently strong, frequently inspired, material that stood up beside any of their contemporaries. Bands like Oasis or (yuck) Coldplay could learn a lot from their refusal to rest on their laurels.

Hey, what was their last album like? Haven't heard it?

I detest Coldplay. They are the epitome of bland mediocrity. The best album I've heard in ages is Absolute Dissent by Killing Joke. I've being listening to it almost non-stop for months.

I only seem to like dance music at the moment. It's cosmic.

Great to see Duane Eddy just now play "Because They're Young" (Johnny Walker's theme tune from Pirate Radio in the 60s). (Pirate Radio that was moored just a few miles opposite where I now live.)

Beyonce was well ... almost a religious expeience for the crowd.. Very talented woman. Glitz and dirt with a halo. And long legs.

Kaiser Chiefs were impressive, too.
