Really sorry to be the bearer of this appalling news. Singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her home, no cause immediately evident but a drug overdose is possible. I don't want to believe it but the news seems definite.

This brilliantly talented, defiantly retro, musically educated and lyrically breathtaking jazz singer was hounded by the gutter press and, like Janis Joplin and others, escaped by taking appalling risks with drugs. It's a great loss to contemporary music.

This singer should not be dead. I just hope some meaningful lessons can be learned from this terrible event.

I heard this whilst at a barbecue this evening and was really shocked - she had a tremendous voice and was a very good songwriter too. I felt that with the way her health had been that she may not have hit the heights her two albums promised but that she would at least be able to equal them some day, but that's not to be now.
I hate to use a word that the press, royalty and the government seem to use at the drop of a hat, but I am genuinely saddened by this.

I'll echo those comments - we found out yesterday afternoon and I, too, was genuinely saddened to hear it. You chaps have put it much better than I would have so I'll leave it at that.

May she rest in peace.

Word will probably go out it was 'medication' that did her in. She's bound to become a legend now.

Joel, i don't know if the press had much to do with it. She seemed a bit knackered from the inside out from the off, it seemed to me.
Yes, a massive shock.

There was a tragic inevitability about this news that needs no elaboration.

Not a shock at all, really - utterly inevitable. But such a sad, tragic end to her story. The girl had genuine talent, too, unlike a lot of modern 'pop stars'. RIP.
