Pretty good, but I think he misses a crucial issue at the end: that of the fear that, if we accept one technical error as permissable, so many more will follow, until language gets butchered beyond recognition. Give a little, concede a lot. I think it's a fundamental human concern, and applicable to many issues, including informal language. Also, he should have just said it: those who sneer at greengrocer's apostrophes . . . sorry, at greengrocers' apostrophes are patronising pudendums. I thank you. | ||
