As mentioned a while ago, I've been involved in liasing with my local literature festival organisers to arrange a BFS event (reading/discussion/book signing) as part of that festival. Here, now, is the blurb from the festival brochure which has just come out (note the date change - it was originally going to be on 11th October):

Wednesday 12th October
7.30 - 9.00 pm
Ilkley Playhouse, Weston Road, Ilkley, West Yorkshire LS29 8DW

FANTASTIC FICTION WITH THE BRITISH FANTASY SOCIETY

The British Fantasy Society, home to readers and writers of fantastic/speculative fiction, showcases three of its most celebrated members. President, RAMSEY CAMPBELL, is the bestselling author of numerous award-winning works of horror, dark fantasy and supernatural fiction. Editor, publisher and writer, PETER CROWTHER, specialises in science fiction, dark fantasy and horror. MARK MORRIS is a horror/thriller writer who has also penned several Doctor Who and Torchwood novels.

Tickets £6 (£4 concessions)

******************************************************************************

The brochure can be downloaded from www.ilkleyliteraturefestival.org.uk

Tickets can be bought from 9am Tuesday 30th August onwards

Hope to see some of you there!

Hey Huw, I wish you could attend some of these things too!

Hope no-one minds if I bump this back up to the top again. Tickets are now on sale and I see our event hasn't sold out yet - though the Jeremy Paxman one has!

C'mon guys, get booking. I'm getting a bit worried that it might end up just me, Ramsey, Mark and Pete at the event!

Just booked my ticket. £2 booking fee! It had better be worth it.

Thanks, Zed!

I didn't realise there was an extra £2 on top as a booking fee! It'll be worth it though.

Looking forward to it, Caroline. I'm trying to get Gary Fry to come along, too, if he's able to juggle his work commitments.

I might try for that. Although my car has had a couple of disagreements with the Pennines recently...

If I don't make it there's a strong chance I'll be stood at teh side of the M62 thrashing my car with a blunt object - a la Basil fawlty but more effective.

Thanks, guys - it didn't take long for you to turn this thread into a "Carry On" thread, did it?!

Weber - would love to see you there too. And Gary F if he can make it.

Hope no-one minds if I bump this back up to the top again - as it involves Ramsey, and as I've just mentioned it on Ray's thread about FCon!

And on 5th of October you can have a curry with Mark Billingham...

I'll see what I can do about getting to this. Might even see how cheap the trains are - saves the risk of my car's apparent allergy to the M62 and means I can have a few drinks.

Don't say that, Zed. I know that whenever I say I'm going to go somewhere, and you're there too, I don't turn up, but that's pure coincidence I can assure you. I'm not trying to avoid you, honest.

Anyway, if I don't show, *you'll* have to introduce the guys, preside over the panel discussion, Q&A, etc.

I think Caroline is really Zed in drag, which is why we never see them in the same room...

If they are both there on the night, what's the reckoning that every time Cazza pops out to powder her nose, Zed will come running back in, looking a bit dishevelled with make up smudges on his face.

I know, Mick. But from what I hear about the temperature down there I couldn't have coped with it. I nearly collapsed just doing my shopping in Morrisons on Saturday, and it was a couple of degrees cooler up here.

I'm sorry but there's no way I can get up for this tonight.

I only got about 2 hours sleep last night if I'm lucky and I'm pretty much falling asleep on my feet.

I have however just filled out my membership form for the Festival of fantastic films in Manchester in two weeks time.

Sorry to be late getting back to this thread - been a hectic week or so. Anyway, I thought folks here might like to know how my "gig" with Ramsey, Pete and Mark went ...

First just to say I was sad you couldn't make it, Weber. I was scanning the audience for someone who might look like you, but luckily I didn't approach any strange men asking if they were you!

The event itself seemed to be enjoyed by everyone - both the participants and the small, but appreciative, audience. The readings were great (got myself a nice haul of books as a result of wanting to hear/read more), and the books seemed to fly off the bookshop's table at the event!

Looking back now I'm extremely chuffed that I managed to be on stage with three of my writing heros without getting totally tongue-tied, fainting or making a complete idiot of myself in some other way. Basically, it was absolutely fantastic! Thanks to Ramsey, Mark and Pete for making it such a memorable event for me.

Zed - sorry it was just a quick "hi" I had with you and not a proper chat. I had to dash off to see that everyone was happy at the signing, and one of the event stewards grabbed me to ask if BFS membership would be a good thing to get her son for his birthday. I couldn't really say to her "go away, I want to talk to these guys"!
