Hello,

After I gave a successful reading/lecture on Edgar Allan Poe's 'The Masque of the Red Death' in October 2010, Lancaster's Litfest have invited me back to give another horror reading for their Lunchtime Classics series. I will be tackling H. P. Lovecraft's 'The Shadow Over Innsmouth' from 1 to 2pm on Friday 21st October. Full details can be found here:

http://www.litfest.org/2011/08/31/lunchtime-classic-hp-lovecraft-read-by-david-m cwilliam/

It will be a reading combined with analysis and there will not be time for questions. However, I'll be in the bar for the rest of the afternoon, so if anyone would like to join me to talk about Lovecraft, horror or anything else then please do.

Litfest's a great organization that will lose a large portion of its funding in 2012, so I'm doing my best to raise awareness of their programme and to encourage more people to attend their excellent events.

Best,

David

You couldn't have picked a finer work, David. For me 'The Shadow Over Innsmouth' is Lovecraft's masterpiece.

Thank you both for the supportive comments and for helping me to publicize the event. Hopefully I can convince people who've never read any horror to give it a try whilst providing something entertaining and informative for those already immersed in the genre.

For me, 'The Shadow Over Innsmouth' is a master class in creating atmosphere, and I agree with Stevie: it is Lovecraft's masterpiece.

Frank, Litfest put on fantastic events throughout the year and have a festival in October. It'd be great if your friends came along to my lecture/reading to check out the building and what else is on offer.

Typos are contagious! Could a mod edit that for me? It sounds like the title of a Charlaine Harris novel.

I can't quite believe how many typos I managed to make with that title . I put it down to writing it on the same day as a funeral in the family. Here's evidence of me actually getting the details right...

Weber, where are you based? We're announcing another event on Monday. It will be held in Runcorn on Thursday 27th October.

I'm based in Salford - city of 10,000 souls, and about 25 times that many people.

Gary is the site's official mod, though his wardrobe hardly lives up to the appellation.

Are there any former mods in horror or horror fandom? On the face of it I would think not many. Ramsey had the wrong haircut. Steve Jones maybe?

Weber, we're also running an event at Waterstone's Liverpool One from 6 to 8pm on Friday 28th October, based on the Solaris House of Fear anthology, featuring readings by Adam Nevill, Lisa Tuttle and Nicholas Royle. I'll post further details once the flyer is uploaded to our blog.

You should see my collection of The Jam. It's remarkably well-preserved.

Gary, I haven't got any Paul Weller/The Who/Brighton Rock related puns to hand, but could you please edit that first post?

Yeah, I like that House of Fear. It's not bad you know.

You should all give it a read.

Hint. Hint. Hint.

I popped it on the BFS site for you earlier this week, David. Good luck with it - wish I could be there too!

Cheers Caroline. Thanks to everyone who came down to the event- I had a great time and the audience members were really receptive and enthusiastic. Hopefully, I'll be able to collaborate with Litfest on more horror-related literary events in the future.
