If anyone is interested, the first ever horror anthology edited by my good self – TERROR TALES OF THE LAKE DISTRICT – will be available for pre-order from Gray Friar Press from tomorrow afternoon onwards (Sat Sept 17). It contains ten original works of fiction from some of the current best chill-meisters in the business and three classic reprints.

For full details, including cover art, TOC and background details, check on my blog page: http://paulfinch-writer.blogspot.com/

A quick extra word: any of my fellow authors who would have liked to be involved in this project but didn’t know anything about it, please don’t be frustrated or annoyed. First of all, I’m still learning this antho business, and for that reason I didn’t throw it open. Secondly, I’m hoping that this will be the first in a series of ‘regional horror’ anthologies set around the UK, and all of those authors I know and rate will be approached in due course to contribute.

Well done, Paul. That sounds like a tasty line-up. Congrats, and here's to many more anthologies edited by you.

Ooooo, nice - I'll be ordering that one too (recently ordered Zed's from the friendly Gray Friar too). Great cover art from Steve Upham.

How about a "Terror Tales of Yorkshire" next, Paul? Yorkshire has some very nice spooky myths and mysteries.

The Dales is in the line-up somewhere, Caroline, but at present it's too much for me. As a good Lancashire lad, I have too many experiences of Yorkshire that make me shudder uncontrollably. There is such a thing as 'horror', and there is such a thing as 'too much horror'.

Losers? Who bloody won at Bosworth Field?

(As I've said elsewhere, deep down the Yorkies recognise the innate superiority of the Red Rose County...)

I think I've made my point.

And my dad's family came from Yorkshire and all...

Oh bugger.

Just don't read the book while in the Lake District. The stories aren't meant to be taken littorally.

Some nice wordplay there, but it Calydon a bit too long. Interesting to see that the magazine it appeared in has some wealthy Bacchus.

For those headed Darn Sarf this weekend - i.e. to Brighton - we'll have copies of TERROR TALES OF THE LAKE DISTRICT available for purchase in the book room (and lots of the authors will be knocking around, so, though there won't be an official launch, signings will be possible as long as you don't mind doorstopping folk in bars, corridors, restaurants, etc).

Has anyone received "Lake District"? Cold Tonnage has it in stock aleady, so I surmise Gray Friar is, or has been, fulfilling Orders for the book. I'm still waiting for my copy.

It should be fine, Giancarlo. I'm surprised it hasn't shown up. Royal Mail promise Airmail delivery in three to five days, and it was posted a week ago. But I sometimes experience delays.

Glad you like the look of it, guys. The tales are great, too. Esepcially mine, which is a work of great genius. It will transform and enrich your lives. Not bad for £9!

Only read Carole Johnson's story so far but does anyone write better dialect based dialogue? The speech of the Ferryman helped to create a perfect image of the character in my mind.

Folk might be interested to know that Simon Bestwick's excellent contribution to this antho - THE MORAINE - has been chosen by Ellen Datlow fo her BEST HORROR OF THE YEAR #4. If you haven't read this story yet, you need to - getting lost in the foggy Lake District fells is something that from this point on you will seriously try to avoid.
