I've been hearing things about this for quite some time, but I didn't know if it had been released or not. Well, here's the trailer. This has been rather unimaginatively called the African horror version of District 9.

Now that really does look interesting.

I'm very wary of trailers since the people who make them are con-artists of the highest order, but I think this has the look of something we used to see in the 80's, when zombies were this slow moving grotesque herd. (Apologies if that makes me sound like a Fangoria fan-boy). This looks more like vintage Romero and Fulci.

This was on at last year's Frightfest, and again at this year's, with cast and crew providing a live commentary.

Frank - your expectations are spot on: it's a throwback to a very 70s style of zombie movie. No time is wasted on set-up/backstory; it's pretty much survival from start to finish. The leads are strong, the story solid, and the zombies the grim-faced shufflers we all know and love.

It's arguably a bit too long, and I felt there were a few narrative mis-steps along the way. There are also a few too many scenes where the heroes' mode of transport conked out while they were surrounded with zombies, only for it to start again at the last minute. But as a whole it's a solid stab at the Romero recipe: zombies + small, divided cast x a smattering of social commentary = splat.

I'm wary of trailers since one came off the back of a car and nearly hit hit my car while I was parked up behind my house.

John - that's great to know. I'll definitely be up for this since a lot of the zombie movies of late have tired me out with their predictability (except The Dead Outside).
