Stumbled across this, and then couldn't stop watching it. Welles had that uncanny ability to hypnotize his audience with his mellifluous voice. I'm struck by how innovative this was, how ahead of its time - probably why the networks passed on it for a series. Produced by Desi Arnaz (!). Note the coda, where Orson Welles promises the next episode (which never happened) would be John Collier's "Green Thoughts," the source material for The Little Shop Of Horrors. http://youtu.be/8nYRjxFGWBc |

I grew impatient with this but liked a lot of it - it could have been an illustrated or audio book. But is it me or is Welles so very much like Lynch? I can see Lynch doing this, and not doing it too differently. |

I've always suspected Lynch was influenced by Welles' 'The Trial' (1962), Tony. Kafka - Welles - Lynch Seems like a natural progression to me. |

You missed out Bergman - Hour of the Wolf and the early dream sequence in Wild Strawberries are almost blueprints for Lynch's work. |

Yep, I've mentioned both films elsewhere on here, Zed, in relation to David Lynch. I'm coming more and more to the conclusion, with every film of his I see, that, if one had to pick one, then Ingmar Bergman was the single greatest film director in the history of the medium. Hitchcock was the greatest popular director (and my favourite) but Bergman was the greatest Artist. |

Bergman's probably my favourite, if I were forced to pick one. Incredibly influential, too. |

I can't limit myself. I try, but I can't. It's like trying to pick a favourite child. |
