Is ATP dead? I've just been on its website and it hasn't been updated for over a year, with some of the pages untouched since 2007. Anyone know the situation? |

They've often been a bit behind in updating things in the past. Hopefully Barbara will see this thread and reply. |

As far as I understand it, the situation is as Joel says. |

Been taking a break for a variety of reasons. We do have plans for the immediate future; first up is our first electronic publication, which will see Frederick Cowles's weird tales available in three volumes. All three are almost ready to go; I doubt we'll be able to make them available before we go to World Fantasy next week, but all three will be available very early in November. These e-pubs will be followed by electronic versions of collections by Wakefield, Kersh, Thomas Burke, and many others. As far as traditional publications go, we're working with Ron Weighell on a collection of his stories. More news as it's available. |

The obvious problem with AH is that any news prepared in the past is no longer viable, and even reviews lose their currency after a while. So the only way to revive AH in its familiar format would be to resume its biannual publication – a big, one-off catch-up volume wouldn't work in the same way. None the less I think the latter would be good even if it contained only fiction and articles. Genre news is easier to keep up with than it used to be. The reviews section is more important – it was arguably the journal's best feature – but it could be dropped for a 'comeback' issue and ongoing has the advantage of a longer shelf life than news. Just a thought... |

AH is in the queue of 'to do' things, although it's lagging behind paid employment and Ash-Tree Press at the moment. As Joel notes, when AH does reappear - and it will - it will not be the same as before. The News and Notes section was always an important part of the journal, but I'm not exaggerating when I say that it took as long to put together that section as it did to do the rest of each issue put together. It served a genuinely useful purpose (or so I'm told) back in the day, but I suspect that most people will have found out most of the news for themselves long before an issue arrives. The new AH will concentrate on fiction and non-fiction, the latter including reviews. However, a print edition of AH is unlikely; there's a limit to what we can charge per issue, and postage costs are crippling for something as hefty as AH. We're examining various possibilities. |

But in fairness, a lot of people did pay for a print edition. |

Incidentally, Barbara, I full intended to buy a few books the other day, but wasn't sure ATP was still trading. The website doesn't inspire confidence that it is. I suspect you might be losing a few sales. Maybe worth an update? |

If you'd like a refund on your sub, Gary, I'll be happy to arrange it when we get back from San Diego. As to the website, it's to undergo a complete revision and overhaul. Everything on there is current. |

Or, Gary, we could give you a credit re your sub against the books you were intending to buy. Your choice. |
