It's that time of year again when we all write our letters to Santa (you guys do still believe in Santa Claus, don't you? ). So, I was wondering what would be on your Christmas wish list this year?

Mine would be as follows:

1. To find copies of the Reggie Oliver collections I don't yet own at affordable prices.

2. Following the showing of Aickman's "The Hospice" film at the recent Halifax Ghost Story Festival, I'd like that and the rest of the "Night Voices" series to be released on DVD so that I can buy a copy.

3. Being selfish, I'd like better health for myself so that I can get all the way down to Brighton for next year's FantasyCon (not to mention several other places I'd like to go next year).

4. A night out with Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull .. no, make that TWO nights out!

5. The usual wish of peace on Earth and goodwill to all men (and women), an end to wars, hunger and greed throughout the world (a pipedream, I know ).

So, what's on your Christmas wish list this year?
(by the way, I'd just decided to post this before seeing Gary's post about his new novel - a strange coincidence, not plagiarism)

1. To sell a !#$#! script.

2. For Gary's hangover to be bearable.

3. Peace, love, you know... stuff.

Ramsey's Christmas wish sent me scurrying to do a search to find out what it is! Here we are:

http://www.abebooks.co.uk/books/RareBooks/serafini-fantasy-art-weird/Codex-Serap hinianus.shtml

Yes, I think I'll add that to my Christmas wish list too!

Gary - the only way your wish can come true is for you to stop drinking alcohol.

I wish for a world without plagiarism or copying, where everone is truly original.

You may say that i'm a dreamer,

A computer that doesn't crash. They're better than the rubbish we had to put up with in the mid-nineties, but we're not out of the wood yet.

Stevie, Mick - are you two speaking in tongues? I haven't a clue what you're talking about!

Hubert - yes, I'll have one of those computers that don't crash too. And super-fast broadband to go with it. I'm fed up of my ruddy computer slowing me down all the time.

Sorry to be a downer, but we had a friend who spent every Christmas with us till he did something rather silly with a looped belt a few years ago. I'd love to get through Christmas without noticing his absence.

Apart from that, would love to get a new cooker sorted out in time for Christmas dinner.

My wish for this Christmas is that my brother will survive his fourth round of chemo (he's got acute leukaemia) and be able to leave hospital and spend the holidays with us.

I'm not around here quite as often as I used to be due to health problems (my own and family members'), but I try to check in whenever possible. Merry Christmas to you all!

Huw - I really hope your wish for your brother comes true. Sorry to hear you (and your family) are still suffering badly with health problems. Nice to see you around here again. I wondered if you were OK as we don't see much of you nowadays. Here's hoping everything's great for you and your family at Christmas.

Stephen - I think remembering those we've loved who are no longer with us is an important part of Christmas. Here's hoping you do remember your friend ... but by remembering all the good times with him instead.

Huw - best wishes to your brother and your family.

Caroline - there's wisdom in what you say. I may schedule a reminder for a day or two before Christmas so I can deal with it then, rather than getting blindsided on Christmas Day...

It's funny to hear the kids talking about it. Our four-year-old gets really quite mad, because he was an excellent gift-giver (as she can tell from the quirky, cool stuff he gave our oldest) and he died before she was born...

Thanks, Stephen. I hope your late friend's absence doesn't weigh too heavily on you this Christmas. And I hope you're able to get that cooker ready for Christmas dinner.

Best of luck to you and yours, Huw.

Stephen, so sorry to hear of your sad story. I don't have a lot of experience of grief. When people are down about their birthdays, I always encourage them to think of it as a celebration that they were born, that they existed. If you can't avoid thinking the thoughts, maybe you can chose what tone the thoughts take..?
