I'm not sure about this film; for the most part it's one of the best looking/filmed horrors you will ever see, but for another part it has all the old familiar things that are dull about modern horror - kung fu skills, blokes who look like cowboys, monster make-up. If the film had got rid of the bad guys (not the vampires) and the stuff that resembled Karate Kid this could have been a classic little film. Me and my stepson both groaned at the same times, saying aloud 'go back to a minute ago!' whenever anyone threw a machete into a vampire's back or whatever, because mostly there was a bit of intelligence and beauty at work.

Loved it, myself. One of the best horror films I've seen this year. Manages to pull off the tricky balancing act of proper horror and action/survival horror.

Thing is, I thought it a horror film of the year, too. I just want an end to machete throwing in what is otherwise good filmmaking, and baldy baddies.
I don't communicate myself very well, do I?
