Dear All The Exaggerated Press are delighted to announce the forthcoming publication of "BUSY BLOOD" a collection of collaborative short stories by those giants of the independent press, Stuart Hughes (editor and co-founder of the legendary "Peeping Tom" magazine and author of "Ocean Eyes" and host of other fantastic fiction) and D F Lewis (creator of the legendry "Nemonymous" megazanthus, novel and author of some 12,000,000 short stories). The cover, (drum roll, sharp intake of breath as the presenter slowly opens the winning envelope) is a masterpiece by our very own Tony Lovell. Des - I think it's because it's 'travelled' now. A friend says jpeg don't travel well, and lose something each time. It'll be that. The one on my pc looks a lot clearer. But folk will get the gist. | ||

Does the camera originally take jpgs, Tony? TIF or PNG are lossless file format and probably a better idea. Nice job. Reminds me of Bernini's Medusa. | ||

It was a pricey looking camera, Proto - I only have a phone for taking pics, and it's not bad for black and white, but colour suffers. I think it was one of those things you said, but the top one was a jpeg I sent Des for posting on here. Maybe it's just this forum affects it? I've got to pull my socks up with this stuff. I haven't got a job and feel unemployable now. And I'm f*cking fifty next year. I feel like jumping in the grave already. | ||

But I'm only just starting to lose the sense of having all the time in the world. Poet Edwin Morgan and children's writer and illustrator Dr Seuss are examples of great talents who didn't produce their best work until their late forties and beyond, into their sixties and seventies. Morgan's last book, written when he was pushing ninety and gravely ill, is terrific. Work! Play! Struggle! Enjoy! Time only hurts if you are unable to take pleasure in things, whether the causes of that are external or internal. | ||

I got myself off to a Sainsbury's cafe and a pub last night - wrote for a while, hopping between old stories and new. I actually enjoyed it, and even better, found I quite liked my writing. It's more uplifting than I remembered. Proto - I wonder if 'Bogey man' comes from Bog man? | ||

I wonder whether, shown reading this book at the link below, Rhys Hughes is looking so horrified because he’s discovered they are horror stories, or because they are horrid stories? Horrified because they are so horrific, or horrified because they are terrible? Caroline...further to your tongue-in-cheek post here, I've just been to Italy and visited far too many cathedrals - all of which were daubed with just the horror stories. The holy (including bishops and popes in full regalia) ascending to heaven and the wicked (naked, always naked) being cast into a wonderful assortment of darkly imaginative hells. | ||
