This is the second such puzzling message today - and I think they were both being sarcastic. |

If you mean Weber's above, then he wasn't being sarcastic. He actually thought that's what you meant. It's best to simply step back and applaud him when he acts out. The nurses who care for him told me that.... |

Here's something interesting... okay, not. Just another optical illusion time-waste. But it took me a while to see this one....

Why does that photo remind me of a Pink Floyd album cover? |

There seem to be an awful lot of these kicking about lately. This one seems to be beyond me. Is it just that the heads look like they're attached to the wrong bodies? |

Yeah, John. And (though I'm succumbing to their fascination too, I must admit) you're right, they are, aren't they? Another "meme" burning up the bandwidth.... |

Okay, seriously now, here's someone saying something interesting - fascinating in fact! Namely, the brilliant Jaron Lanier, who gave this talk over in the U.K. looks like just a week or so ago…. Music, virtual reality, evolution, cognition, molecules, Hollywood, vomit, etc. The best part of it is at appx. 28:00ff, where he finally gives the "bad melodrama" example, and talks about the dangers of tech/computers: "You have to hate the computer, to use it well: there is no other choice…." Your IQ feels like it's been raised a few points, by the end of this…. Another great quote(31:11ff): "The idea that Silicon Valley kids are making up what constitutes social interaction [through Facebook] for the rest of the world is the most perverse thing that's ever happened." Amen!!! http://blip.tv/learning-without-frontiers/jaron-lanier-learning-by-experience-pl ay-5929992 |

Yup, that pic took me a little while to work out. Until I started to think to myself "her legs look a little hairy/muscular ... heck, her arms are even hairier than her legs!" Then, it dawned on me! Quick, I am. |

More "interesting" brilliance from Jaron Lanier. In the first 20 minutes he jumps from Aristotle to scifi to Marx, and demands his listeners - immediately following his talk - go out and read E.M. Forrester's short story "The Machine Stops." Then he launches into the internet, its very nature, and the wicked domination of the "master servers." Yes, like the page linking this says: It'll change your entire understanding of the very nature of this thing we now call the internet.... http://www.darkheartfelt.com/blog/2012/1/8/la-unemployment-jaron-lanier-explains -why-the-internet-is-al.html |

Ha! Yes, right there, you can see your typical American university's degree in English, in action.... Either that, or I was confusing him with that one actor, what's his name?... Robert Forrester Whittaker?... |
