This is from a sketch show called Burnistoun, I don't think it's ever been shown outside of Scotland. It turns out the two guys who do it are massive Lovecraft fans, leading to this brilliant sketch where a man tries to get his Housing Association to deal with the eldritch horror in his basement.

For Lovecraft fans, priceless. For another else, WTF?

Why did that happen to his head at the end?

Very very funny though

There's a great 'lost' Lovecraft tale in which people are made out of geometric figures.

Very funny!!

I wouldn't mind seeing more of this show. Is it like a Scottish version of 'The League Of Gentlemen'?

Although it is all themed around one town and is occasionally a bit dark and sinister, it's not really an accurate comparison. That sketch is the only real horror related material they've done, mostly it's a pretty traditional sketch show with a Scottish sense of humour.

Velvet Soup was the closest thing I've seen to a Scottish LoG, unfortunately it's never had a DVD release and seems pretty much forgotten about, apart from a handful of sketches on YouTube.

Never heard of 'Velvet Soup'. I have to say homegrown Scottish comedy shows tend to be a lot funnier than their equivalent over here in Northern Ireland. Laudable as its intentions are, I find 'Give My Head Peace' to be painfully unfunny. Remember 'Naked Video'!

Velvet Soup came out in 2001, I think. It had two series but the second one was messed around in the schedules and lost viewers as a result. As far as I know it's never even been repeated since. This is about the best quality sketch available on YouTube, a disturbed policeman giving a lecture on safety to a bunch of schoolkids:

There's also Limmy's Show, which is a real "love it or hate it" kind of bizarre, experimental sketch show. The star, Brian Limmond, has said he's more influenced by stuff like The Twilight Zone than other comedy.

Speaking of Limmy's Show (as I was, er, four months ago) here're some sketches that veer somewhat into horror: Raymond Day, the medium who gives...less than reassuring messages from the afterlife.

Series three of Burnistoun started just the other week and it should be available on iPlayer, for those of you cursed with not living in Scotland. There's been nothing horror-related in it so far though.
