No, he does not. I love the guy but he wouldn't even make it into my Top 20. As discussed at length on here in the past... |

I've read it through & it's a lot of burbling nonsense. I can't even work out if the author likes horror or not. Weber - is this actually from the Daily Mash or one of those other daft sites? |

It appears to be from some sort of "literary" site. |

I don't think Stephen King can any longer be defined as a purely horror author. Rather he has created a new mainstream genre of uneasy dysfunction within an otherwise cosily recognisable universe. For the first 10 years or so of his career he was arguably the greatest horror author on the planet then he branched out into fantasy, sci-fi, crime and other assorted thrillers, throwing in a macabre element every now and again to keep his old fans happy. I'm not criticising the man for this, anymore than I would criticise Clive Barker for moving into epic fantasy (though his central vision has stayed true). But one cannot be all things to all men and achieve true greatness within the constraints of genre fiction. I have always found the comparisons of King to Dickens to be profoundly crass and I'm sure Stephen would agree with me. |

Forget the criticism of king in the article. Look at the swingeing claims it makes about horror in general... |

Are they simply trying to be sarcastic about those people who do think horror is second-rate stuff? I can't figure out if they actually believe what they're saying or whether they're trying to point out how daft that viewpoint is! |
