Why are people so concerned that I don't give a damn about 22 grown men running round a field chasing an inflated f***ing pigs bladder?

The number of times today I've been told I MUST WATCH tonights stupid f***ing match because it's ENGLAND's overpaid idiots playing.

Apparently the fact that I don't care about it makes me either a miserable git or gay.

As I pointed out to the gentleman who told me I must be gay - I'm not the one who wants to watch 22 athletic young men running round a field in tight shorts.

I don't like football. I don't care who's playing or what the competition is. It's boring and I don't have the sheep mentality necessary to slavishly follow the overpaid f***wits.

Rant over.

For now.

I'm with you on that, Marc - "you're not a real man"!
I don't have a problem with people enjoying football - why can't fans see that some folk aren't interested.

The first half was good though, Weber. But I nearly fell asleep in the second half. I must say, I thought England looked a better team than they have done for years - solid defence, and some good young players in mid-field and up front. Disappointed that both teams seemed happy to sit back and play for the draw by the second half though. I guess both England and France think they can beat both Sweden and Ukraine and qualify - but I reckon the Swedes could put the cat among the pigeons ...

Football's like watching Neighbours - good fun for ten years or so, but by the end of that you've seen every possible storyline several times over.

I'm quite enjoying Euro 2012, though. First time I've watched any full matches since the last World Cup.

By the way, where's Stevie? We now have an RCMB Euro 2012 thread. He ought to be here.

I don't watch much soccer, but when I do it tends to be stuff like this. European Cup, World Cup.

Prefer F1 otherwise, sportswise, the odd rugby game. Footy league games I can take or leave, though mostly leave.

I could do without golf and tennis and the people who play and care about them, though.

It's probably a class thing.

Chip. Shoulder. The usual long yawn of misunderstanding from those entitled folks.

Sorry, Caroline. I had intended a Euro 2012 predictions competition like last time but, to be honest, I haven't been feeling too well this past week and find I can't sit in front of the monitor for too long.

Was diagnosed with vertigo yesterday and been put on medication for next ten days to see if it calms down. For those who don't know, as I didn't until last week, vertigo is characterised by frequent attacks of extreme dizziness, a feeling of almost constant nausea and inability to stand bright lights - including TV or computer screen it would appear. I'm having to type this while looking away every few seconds otherwise my head would start going round like a whirlybird and I'd have to go and lie down. It is the most frightening and disorienting sensation I have ever experienced! But, worse than any of that, I can't fecking drink while I'm on these tablets!!!

I've seen every game so far, with frequent breaks to avoid sickness (but, hey, that's football), and here's my Analysis:

GROUP A

Poland 1 - 1 Greece : Entertaining, incident packed opener but neither of these teams look likely to progress.

Russia 4 - 1 Czech Republic : Russia looked serious contenders, steamrollering the Czechs, who weren't that bad themselves.

I'm gonna stick my neck out and say the Czechs will still qualify in 2nd place with Russia easily topping the group and winning all three of their games.

GROUP B

Holland 0 - 1 Denmark : First major upset of the tournament with the Dutch paying for being too cautious and the Danes getting the break they needed.

Germany 1 - 0 Portugal : Classy game with the Germans looking ominously confident and deserving the win over a talented Portuguese side.

Germany look to have progressed from the tight machine they were at the World Cup and they're my tip to top the group without breaking sweat and go on to win the tournament. Portugal second after a tense three-way battle.

GROUP C

Spain 1 - 1 Italy : An absorbing game with both teams looking evenly matched but the Italians just shading it due to signs of opening match nerves from the Spanish.

Ireland 1 - 3 Croatia : Talk about a sickener! Ireland, after doing so well to get here, were bloody terrible. The most atrocious Irish performance I ever had to suffer through - jumping up and down off the sofa like a madman, while my head felt like it was spinning through the fecking ceiling! They looked unfit, nervous and unsure of themselves in every department and handed the game to a no more than competent Croatia through suicidal defending that schoolboys in the park would have been ashamed of... for a while I thought I was watching England (had to get that in).

Ireland are already out and the Croats don’t look like creating any upsets so Spain & Italy look sure to progress with Spain topping the group if they can settle their nerves.

GROUP D

France 1 – 1 England : Very nervy opener for both teams with the French looking the better side but England really surprising me by their new found solidity. In past competitions this is just the type of game they’d have spent the second half running about like headless chickens in but they kept their shape and played doggedly and with determination that had even me rather warming to them. A fantastic result for England that should see them through but progressing beyond that I’m not so sure about…

Ukraine 2 – 1 Sweden : Another upset with the Ukrainians really rising to the occasion as co-hosts and getting a deserved win over underperforming Sweden. Neither of these teams looked great though.

France to easily top the group and England to continue playing with steady improvement and book their place in 2nd thanks mainly to Hodgson’s calm and assured presence and tactical nous. I can’t help wondering about how Rooney will affect the team performance when he comes back after the next game… and it may not be a positive influence.

As all teams have now played once we could start a wee competition from here. 3 pts for correct score, 1 pt for correct result and no bonus points. So here’s tonight’s Stevie predictions:

5.00 : Greece 0 – 1 Czech Republic

7.45 : Poland 1 – 3 Russia
