This is awful news! The original vinyl double album, "Made in Japan" was a live masterpiece and my first real introduction to Deep Purple - part of my youth, a band I loved and still do and what separated Deep Purple from the rest of the very excellent late-60s-early-1970s rock pack was, of course, Jon Lord's trademark organ playing.

The BBC and others have, of course, not mentioned Lord's contribution to the nation's classical heritage because his classical output was not just the 1969 Philharmonic concert.

Well, the Great Gig in the Sky has a second great keyboard player now...
