I may have to go to the BFS wotsit in Brighton this year. Looking at the book launches, the Ninth Black book of horror is there - and I'm in it!

Well one of my stories is in it. Not me physically, obviously. That would be a big book and you could only have one copy. Unless someone chopped me into pieces, dried them and used them as free bookmarcs (see what I did there!). But I don't think I'm willing to suffer that much for the art.

Who else from here will be there?

Sorry, Weber, I won't be able to travel all that way (long distances aren't any good for me any more ).

Congrats on the BBoH story! I'll have to catch you another time to get you to sign my copy for me.

Certainly us too. As well as a lot of the folk on the board here - have a scan through the 'attending members' section of the fantasycon site.

I read my story at the last FCon and had walkouts! I was really rather proud in a Pete Walker "I want people to run out clutching their stomachs" kind of way.

Indeed. In another context a walkout might be a snotty "I don't listen to such vulgarity" kind of statement, but at Fantasycon it wasn't a statement at all, it was an involuntary reaction to the impact of the story. Like me at age seven asking to be let out of the classroom where a recording of the Beowulf story was being played. I simply couldn't handle the suspense – not the horror of what I heard, the suspense of what was coming. That walkout was my moment of entry into horror fandom. Within a year I'd got the book out of the children's library and read it.

Aww, shucks! Thanks, folks.

Here's hoping they hold the next one a bit further north (OK, a *lot* further north) so that I can get to it. Leeds would be an excellent place for FCon.

Insanely busy in Manchester. Sorry i couldn't get down there. There's also the fact that I'm at Grimm Up North next weekend and the Festival of fantastic films at the end of the month. My money is on tight rations. Brighton was just a tad too far...

And it sounds like there isn't a FCon next year - just World FCon, which is in Brighton again. So much for me hoping to get to FCon in 2013.

Beautiful treasure trove of books there, Mick! I've already got Lady P's book, and the two Lord P ones are on order, along with Mary Danby, but you've just reminded me I must order Ramsey's new book asap.

Indeed you must, Caroline! I got these books but missed out on a huge stack of launches, unfortunately, including Charles' Black Book launch, but at least he sold out without my help! I shall be buying his book online.

My contributor copy arrived in the post yesterday. I've read half a dozen of the stories so far and it's a great collection.

John P's story is a fabulous opener, Thana's (the good Lady Kate) story is beautifully creepy, Simon B's story is a real belter as well.

I can't believe my story is in there with stories that good.

I haven't started on BBoH yet - got so many new books to read I don't know where to start. Plus I'm up to my eyeballs in work and stuff at the moment. Hopefully, by next week, things should start to settle down a bit and I can read for pleasure again.
