So many wonderful collections. It was my first year as Chair of Collections and my fellow judges were Ellen Datlow, Stephen Dedman, Greg Herren and Judy Comeau. We read work from around 90 authors. I think we have set an new record. Members send recs in (the top 5 or 6 with highest recs make it) and judges choose 5 to make a preliminary list. Thanks Ally, and thanks to those commenting above. I obviously don't fancy my chances against the likes of Jonathan Carroll or Joyce Carol Oates, but the exposure is nice – and as Mark notes, there aren't a lot of UK publications in the list. Interesting to see a poetry category – in a UK context there wouldn't be many candidates, though some poets published outside the genre press could usefully be considered (Liverpool poet Eleanor Rees, whose poems often have supernatural themes, is a fine example). | ||
