I have learnt a lot about Stuart Sutcliffe of the early Beatles days when reviewing this story... http://dflewisreviews.wordpress.com/2013/05/29/interzone-246/#comment-739 |

There's a good film about him, Des. I think it's called BACKBEAT. |

It is indeed called "Backbeat" and is a quiet, but great, film. Just goes to show that when we make decisions in our lives we never know... Cheers Terry |

But to worry about such decisions instead of being happy with one's lot and use one's experiences in life to learn and grow is to give in to the seductive myth of the individual life of the soul, Terry. Stuart Sutcliffe did what was right for him and embraced a greater form of Art than The Beatles, as much as I love their music, that John could only ever dream of achieving and Paul thought was pure hogwash. George ended up agreeing with Stuart by a more painful road and Ringo, God bless his cotton socks, was the real winner all round. It's not Fame vs Integrity, it's Real Life vs Illusion. |

I recently developed a huge crush on Brian Epstein. A total Virgo who embraced his star sign's traits and ran with them. (I know how silly that sounds, but i do believe it works,) |

Stevie I wasn't so much concerned about regret over what might have been (althoguh I am human enough to experience that), but with that old adge about how life turns on a dime. It was impossible back then to tell just what a monster he had turned his back on/escaped. You're right to question how enjoyable it all was for the Beatles in the long run, how much satisfaction they gained from what they became, in comparison with Sutcliffe's attmept at maintaining his artistic integrity. When being careful what we wish for, which wish do we reach for? Cheers Terry |
