Chaosium seems to be doing a bunch of these lately. I must say, this one looks pretty nicely done—and wow, can that be right, they made over 10x their goal in mere days?! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1816687860/cthulhu-wars |

That's mad...if anyone could generate goodwill in the roleplaying community it's Sandy Petersen and Chaosium, but still! |

This kind of thing is indicative of our new world of entertainment: consumption, production, and distribution. Tech is morphing industries faster than Carpenter's Thing... |

I've seen a bit of backlash against kickstarter projects recently, mainly because game studios and film makers who could find funding for their projects in the traditional way are starting to use it, seemingly seeing it as a less risky way to get investment, and a lot of people are worried that could ruin it for the little guys. Hopefully it won't though. I do know a band who recently used it to fund the release of their album. They only needed a couple of thousand pounds and got it in a few days, cutting the need for a record label out of the equation entirely. |

Some one of you enterprising publishers (Gary?) should jump on this. Like, More Dark Forces; get together all the original contributors, those living; substitute the deceased ones for luminaries in the field right now; promise a handsome slip-cased leather-bound velvety hardcover signed and illustrated, etc. Kickstarter's datum for the ongoing fracturing of entertainment megaliths and monopolies. And there's real concern—witness recent comments from Spielberg and Lucas: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/steven-spielberg-predicts-implosion-film-5 67604 |
