I love it when you find words for things you never realised there were words for. My absolute favourite is BLYPE - which is the skin that peels off after sunburn... I'm easily pleased i know, but Blype is such a great sounding word. Now let's hear yours... |

Hibernation. I think it's the concept as well as the word itself. |

Snard. It's the foul-smelling stuff emitted by whales when they exhale through their blowholes. |

I tell you what's not my favorite words, put together. "Cellar door." I just don't get the big deal about that—there's a whole wikipedia page devoted to it! |

Italian is my favourite language because every sentence is full of such beautiful combinations of words. It's all in the flow and the musical lilt of the sounds they make when spoken. |

A few years ago I read about a conference of international linguists at which a single word was selected as the most beautiful in any language. That word was "flamingo." Knowing a bit about language-sensitive people, I can only imagine the arguments and backstabbing that must have gone on to narrow the field down to that single word. I'm impressed with the effort. However, I admit the word does little for me. I've always preferred "cascade." Couldn't say why, really. |
