I know there are some PBoH fans here - thought you might be interested in this. Johnny Mains, who has amassed a wealth of knowledge about the PBoHs, has set up a Kickstarter campaign to fund a wonderful-sounding history of the series. I've pledged a little myself - how about you? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1027049759/the-pan-book-of-horror-stories-s crapbook |

What's the deal with Kickstarter, Caroline? Do you have to pay the funds up front? |

Hi Lincoln. What happens is that if the target is reached by a certain date (21 July in this case) then the funds are paid to the person running the project. Then, he's expected to deliver by the due date (Dec 2015) - or refund backers if he's unable to do so. So, the contract is between the backers and the person running the project - not Kickstarter. So, yes, it is paid upfront in this case. That means there's a risk, of course. If Johnny didn't deliver then I guess in theory he could run off with the money - but then there'd be quite a few of us after him if he did! In this case, I know Johnny knows his stuff as far as the Pan Books of Horror are concerned, and he certainly is more than capable of producing this book. He's got a good track record in publishing nowadays. So I feel secure in backing this (though I confess I've only got £15 to lose if it does go wrong - I know someone who's backed him to the tune of £600!). So, yes, there's a risk - but I know he's not some fly-by-night and his heart's really in this project. Hope this helps you decide! I can't vouch for him of course - but I'm trusting him on this. |

Oh, here's some info about who's responsible for what in a Kickstarter project: https://www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/kickstarter%20basics#Acco |

Sorry to sound a bit thick, but, is the money taken now, or on 21st July, when the target is met? |

I recently finished my first complete chrono reread of the 'Pan Books Of Horror Stories' and I'm working on a complete ranking and appraisal of every single story, for the craic. The series is important because it spanned such a vast period of time and the material represented everything in the genre, throughout its run, from the highest levels of literature to the lowest depths of sensationalist schlock. |

I'm just doing it for the fun, Hubert, but thanks. Nearly finished the sensational anthology 'Black Water' (1983), edited by Alberto Manguel, and I think it's the finest collection I've read. A real treasure trove of amazing stories. |

"Sorry to sound a bit thick, but, is the money taken now, or on 21st July, when the target is met?" Sorry, Lincoln, I've only just got back from holiday so only seen your question now. The money's taken on 21st July if it reaches the target. Sorry I didn't make that clear - that's what I meant to say. |

Just 6 days left to reach the target for what will be an AWESOME book if it goes ahead. Johnny's got £3,000+ pledged towards a target of £5,000. I've just increased my pledge. Giving this thread a little "bump" in the hope some more backers will come on board ... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1027049759/the-pan-book-of-horror-stories-s crapbook |

Whoops - should have posted this a few days ago! The target has been reached, the book is going ahead .. and I hear that Les Edwards has agreed to do the cover art. Woo-hoo! Now, the only people who will get a copy of this book are the ones who have pledged via Kickstarter - apparently, it won't be available to the public. So, if you want a copy of what will, I'm sure, be a fantastic book for old Pan Horror lovers (like me!) you need to pledge before the campaign closes on Monday: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1027049759/the-pan-book-of-horror-stories-s crapbook |

The project's now been fully funded (I think it's closed at £5.5k in the end). Having spoken to Johnny at Edge-Lit over the weekend, this sounds like a mammoth and very worthwhile project. |

The project closed on Sunday and was fully funded (he ended up with £5.5k). I spoke to Johnny on Saturday and Edge-Lit and his plans for the book are amazing. |
