Anyone else watch? I really liked how they styled it so closely to the original show, though it curiously felt older than the films. It was also at the same standard of storytelling as the series, which was always cosily b movie and cheap(ish). On the downside I'm not sure it was good or bad or just nostalgic, which never relies on having to be any good at all. It could almost have been experimental, a straight version of Garth Marenghi.

I started the first episode a week ago, and fell asleep during it, and never got back. I was just tired, it wasn't what I was watching. Though suspension of disbelief was difficult... I mean, come on! That scene where Mulder and Scully get into the limo with the TV guy, and they drive around for about a good five minutes talking... and they never hit a SINGLE RED LIGHT?! In busy city traffic in the middle of the day?! A little detail like that, sure, but I'm still a little bit not joking: it was needlessly sloppy. And now I'm a tad concerned the rest of the show will contain more sloppiness....

You see, I never notice things like that. Goes completely over my head. I LOVED every episode but the last.

I too absolutely loved the recent X Files series. It was like it had never been away. Like meeting up with an old friend after many years and picking up exactly where we had left off. The cliffhanger implies there will be more and thank god for that!

Believe it or not, I only ever saw the film and couldn't get into it.

Which film, Hubert? Neither of them really did the show justice although they were watchably entertaining. The first one, 'Fight The Future' (1998), is a good bit better than 'I Want To Believe' (2008). At its very best, which was in the stand alone horror episodes that made up about two thirds of each season, the show is pure television heaven. I can only think of 'Fringe', 'The Walking Dead' and 'Game Of Thrones' as serious fantastical genre TV serials that have equalled it in quality since.

For me the most enjoyable of the six episodes was the horror comedy one written and directed by good old Darin Morgan - "Mulder And Scully Meet The Were-Monster". I laughed the whole way through it and thought it was very clever. Yes, Tony, like Garth Marenghi. But the playfulness of 'The X Files' and ability for the show to poke fun at its own success was always one of its great strengths.

I'm watching the old ones and love them. That and Trek were the best stuff of that decade. Well, we can put Simpsons in there too.

It goes downhill after series one. That fast.
