I researched and very much enjoyed Spectre last night, and there again was the Bond trope of him and a girl being very comfortably imprisoned at the baddy's base. That moment always appealed to me and I never knew why. Then it hit me: that comfortable place is our life. Bad guys run everything. We hang on their whim. It would be so easy to stay there. But...no, it needs defiance, destroying. But freedom means rubble -doesn't it?

I never thought about it, but you're right, there is often that scene where Bond and the girl are feted at the villain's lush retreat. The last temptation.

One of the things I didn't like about SPECTRE - minor, anal, still - was that they showed us Bond's apartment. We have NEVER before seen where Bond lives in a film, and I've always thought this smart and part of the deeper mythography of it: Bond is the equivalent of a Greek hero who comes down from heaven only when Earth needs him to put things back in the balance (Bond films are always about maintaining status quo - never about making things *better* on Earth). So, smartly, Bond's home is superfluous, totally unnecessary. This is what I fear from what I saw in SPECTRE, that maybe these powerful structural threads that have been there so long, are unravelling....

But that room, none of the pictures hung up. I found that very meaningful. You wondered if he had a bed or kettle. It felt like the room of someone who didn't need one.

I distinctly remember a scene in one of the earlier Bonds where M calls round to Bond's swish pad and interrupts him with a lady. I think it was one of the Connerys. I'm temporarily offline at the minute which explains my absence recently. On Wi-Fi down the pub here.

Is it possible Spectre came out four years ago?!? Where does the time go?... And we must wait further for the new one... the world needs Bond films, they are a tonic for weakness, and fear, and despair....

Yes! They are! I kind of liked we saw his apartment with those unhung pictures and a tv still in a box. It fitted. There was a message in there.
Yesterday I was on a bus and a little toddler girl in a buggy was pointing at things and naming them, "dog!" "Dad!", then her mum passed her a phone and she stopped doing all that crap. I have to say, the girl looked sad, baffled as to why she should be handed MIT, but then she was lost in it. It was like watching a murder.

I don't think Bond - real Bond - will be allowed today. Much as we need him.

We need him so much now indeed! But Bond, afraid of no one, was chased away by a nagging cold.

But you can't kill Bond - he'll come back in another iteration, if they dare. SJWs have had their day, but I think the darkness is coming for them....

You know what's really working for me? Curb, season 10. A joy! Focusing on the small thing, the important ones. Like the consistency of a scone.

I thought they were going to go with the candle on that one, but... probably best they didn't.
