This web version
of the British National Formulary has been prepared by the Virtual
Health Network under licence from the publishers of the BNF,
the British Medical Association and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. It
contains the same information as the printed handbook.
The paper-based publication is updated every six months (March and September);
VHN’s web version will be released shortly thereafter.
TICTAC
is a visual Drug Identification database covering medicines, illicit drugs,
veterinary products vitamin and food supplements, herbal remedies and products
that might be mistaken for drugs such as confectionery.
TICTAC contains detailed information on over 16,000 tablets and capsules or
related products with over 40,000 high quality images of those products.
The
eMC is a database of information about medicines. Updated daily it is hosted
within the Virtual Health Network. The eMC evolved from two ABPI publications:
The Compendium of Data Sheets and Product Characteristics (SPCs)
The Compendium of Patient Information Leaflets (PILs).
It provides easy access to individual SPCs and PILs.
New
Drug File is a specialist and comprehensive on-line pharmaceutical intelligence
resource. NDF monitors all global events relating to the development and
licensing of new medicines and new indications/formulations for marketed
medicines. NDF provides a single solution specifically developed to meet
the needs of UK professionals who need fast and easy access to the latest
facts on new medicines.
NDF is updated daily and provides accurate, authoritative horizon information
at affordable prices. It is independent, reliable and easy to use.

NICE
- The National Institute for Clinical Excellence - was set up as a Special
Health Authority for England and Wales on 1 April 1999.
It is part of the National Health Service (NHS), and its role is to provide
patients, health professionals and the public with authoritative, robust and
reliable guidance on current “best practice”.
The guidance will cover both individual health technologies (including medicines,
medical devices, diagnostic techniques, and procedures) and the clinical management
of specific conditions.
The
executive agency of the Department of Health safeguarding public health by
ensuring that all medicines on the UK market meet appropriate standards of
safety, quality and efficacy.
The
Prescription Pricing Authority is an independent Special Health Authority
within the National Health Service. The Authority has its headquarters in
Newcastle and has a number of offices elsewhere in the North of England and
one in the West Midlands.

The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry is
the trade association for about a hundred companies in the UK producing prescription
medicines. Its member companies research, develop, manufacture and supply more
than 90 per cent of the medicines prescribed through the National Health Service.
