Anyone see this then? A reasonable stab at the old-fashioned ghost story, with the same kind of morally bankrupt character receving a nasty come-uppance typical of the Amicus pictures. Nice period atmosphere with some good performances, especially from Julian Rhind-Tutt who I think should be in more of this sort of thing. The framework reminds me of House That Dripped Blood. Sadly the facade of the house itself looks a bit too CGI. The 20s flapper style story this evening looks as if it might be good, although it'll be hard for them to stop me thinking about Tyburn's THE GHOUL. | ||

It was fun, but as JLP says, the front of the house looked unconvincing - almost straight from the 'eighties era of sfx. | ||

Also, to be picky, the framing device was very boringly shot. And I KNOW atmosphere is A Good Thing but I would have liked some blood. | ||

There should be some sort of law separating cgi from ghosty telly things. Any ghostly thing with cgi in it is not a ghostly thing. | ||

Well I have a problem with CGI a lot of the time anyway. Perhaps it's just the generaion I'm from but it feels far more fake than model work or a bloke with some makeup slapped on, because you know CGI's not really there. | ||

Couldn't agree more, John - I'm willing to forgive a lot, in regards of model work and make-up, but unless CGI is perfect, I'm not interested. And even then, not much. | ||

I've got the flu and couldn't watch it last night. What channel is it on? It's on BBC4, Ally - two more episodes to go (tonight and tomorrow) but they're having a sort of omnibus edition on saturday. It is indeed not as good as the Lawrence Gordon Clark programmes, but more fun than the recent M R James adaptations. | ||

The second part didn't do a lot for me either I'm afraid. A really good ghost but it was brought on too late and the first twenty minutes were just preamble where nothing scary happened at all. Ok - I've just seen the last episode of Crooked House and I can gleefully declare that is was the best and nastiest of the three, being a nice riff on Chetwynd-Hayes' The Door while pulling the framework story into the plot like 'Asylum'. The only thing that detracted from it was the pretty workmanlike direction which for the most part seemed to come from the 'Eastenders' school of flat uninspired close-up filled drama making. Maybe it was very rushed. | ||
