Well the trailer did its work and convinced me to go and see this yesterday. For anyone expecting a Philip K Dick inspired thriller it's not, doing very little indeed with a very PKD idea - everyone stays at home and lives through synthetic surrogates. Instead of doing anything interesting with the idea we then get a fairly standard plot with a few twists and turns and some familiar actors (Radha Mitchell, Ving Rhames, good old James Cromwell and of course star Bruce Willis). This reminded me most of the old Charlie Band Empire SF pictures (Trancers, Eliminators etc) but with a bigger budget. If you expect that you won't be disappointed. I suspect some of this is down to the skill of Jonathan Mostow (who made Terminator 3 which I liked, if only because it's one of the few big genre pictures to end so bleakly. In fact the only other one I can think of that ends on such a downer is Beneath the Planet of the Apes) Oh, and I'll leave the last line to this chucklesome excerpt from the Telegraph review: In the role of Willis’s Stepford-esque robo-wife, someone has finally figured out how to cast Rosamund Pike - superficially perfect, but falling to bits. |

So what you're saying, John, is: MINORITY REPORT redux. |

The comic book is worthwhile if that's any consolation. |

I nodded off through this. One of the most unexciting and uninvolving films of recent years. EVERYONE just looked like they wished they were at home. A good idea, too, but in need of a Goddard or the like to fire the ideas up. |
