For you, Mick, it's a short story for a tall guy. For Zed, it's a tall story for a short guy. |

This is very good indeed, and the other Nightjar chapbook - "The Safe Children" by Tom Fletcher - is even better (one of the best tales I've read all year). |

Is Nick Royle behind Nightjar Press then? If so, that would explain the quality of the chapbooks if he's picked the stories. When ever I've come across one of his stories in an anthology, I've always enjoyed it immensely. A very under-rated writer in my opinion - we should see much, much more of his writing. |

Nick Royle is the guvnor. My favourite body of short fiction in the field other than the untouchable Ramsey's. |

Does Nick have any nice collections you'd recommend me to try, Gary? (or anyone else, for that matter - doesn't have to be Gary) I must admit, I've only ever come across the occasional short story by him in various anthologies. But I really should read more by him I think. Oh, and I should say I love MMS shorts too. "The Man Who Drew Cats" certainly rates as one of the best more recent short stories I've read. |

Read these two stories last night and I enjoyed both stories immensely- The Tom Fletcher tale had a disturbing center indeed- with a sort of corporate horror Ligottian feel. Great contrasts between the desolate and run down- urban landscape with the very sterile and bland work place. A really strong tale. MMS was up to his usual mischieviousness, with a strong tale as well. Actually I think this story really shows what MMS does so well, the seemingly simple, surreal and terrifying stuff. I hope he publishes more new short fiction soon. I'm enjoying his novels a great deal, but the short fiction is special |

Tom Fletcher's story is one of the best I've read this year - and I found it almost anti-Ligotti, btw. It was concerned with people, their lives and their expectations of the future we were all promised decades ago. A future that never arrived. |

"Where are my safe children? Where is my flying car?" The quote lies at the heart of the story's wonderful sense of melancholy and regret. |
