I was in a local bookstore in Copenhagen today (a pretty big store in the middle of the city) and really stumbled across a bunch of copies of 'Decay Inevitable' by Conrad (A.) Williams.It was cool seeing the Williams in a big commercial bookstore etc, they had however, positioned the books in the very darkest corner of the shop, on the bottom shelf, between the YA and religious books section? You would almost have to have a torch and chip the books and then have a homing device to stumble across them. I actually bought another copy just so that I could complain to the poor person at the shop counter why on earth they had shelved the books there? I was just wondering how many people, who might not know Williams's work might actually just pick this book up because of the powerful Mckean cover, if they could see it though...I see this sort of shelving with the horror section in general,(if there even is one these days, unless it involves vampires, or zombie mash-ups.) Or there will be one Campbell MPB in the crime section... |

Or my local comic book store, which used to have a horror section, now only has vampire books, and they all feature bovine-eyed photoshopped teenagers, with soft, out of focus backgrounds. Rant over. |

As a compensation, at least you now have the best restaurant in the world in Copenhagen: Noma (won the yearly prize a few weeks ago). It should be quite impressive and fascinating... |
