Atomic Fez reduces eBook prices by a third DRM-free multi-platform titles now priced at £4.30 to £3.07 10.21.2010 – Vancouver – Atomic Fez is dropping its eBook pricing by 33% effective immediately. This includes eBooks purchased through Amazon's Kindle Stores (www.amazon.com or www.amazon.co.uk) and www.kobobooks.com as well as the multi-file *.ZIP archives purchased directly from www.atomicfez.com. eBooks from Atomic Fez are now just $6.99 (£4.30 GBP) with the exception of the just-released PONTHE OLDENGUINE ($4.99/ £3.07 GBP) by Andrew Hook. 'After a year in operation and with half a dozen titles published, my thinking on eBook pricing has evolved,' said Ian Alexander Martin, Publisher & Proprietor of Atomic Fez Books. 'When I realized I wouldn't pay more than 50% of the pBook cost for an eBook, I knew it was time to lower our prices. eBooks are the 21st Century's version of the mass market paperback, and they need to be priced accordingly.' Atomic Fez remains committed to the printed book, and will be issuing two new titles early in 2011. 'Let's face it though,' said Martin, 'not all books are forever - sometimes one read is enough. eBooks offer readers increasingly cost-effective reading choices.' If you can't wait for Santa, you can get Kindle for your desktop as a free download to tide you over. Although it lacks the portability, obviously, so it may not be worth it -- I don't think I've used mine once since I downloaded it out of curiosity. Going to check out the Atomic Fez catalogue forthwith... | ||

Jamie - I already have the Kindle for PC download. It's crap - like reading off your computer (which is, of course, what it is). The Kindle itself is a much better reading experience on the old peepers. | ||

Jamie, the latest Kindle edition is the cheapest so far: $150 or so. Granted, it's more than a fiver, so perhaps not quite available to all as yet. Still, they're coming down. The key to the things is, as Zed says, the screen: eInk is very much the same contrast as ink + paper, only no trees die. Reading on the monitor of one's computer is... like reading on the monitor of your computer. The ideal use of a computer monitor, and the purpose it's primarily designed for, is displaying of pornographic photos and video. That's certainly what I've been told, but I have yet to come to a solid conclusion about that. So I'll continue studying the matter. ...cross-analyzing my data with Zed's, obviously. | ||

Ian, I left a six-year career in insurance to return to university this autumn, so e-readers are at their present cost and ability are a luxury item I can`t justify. Although some of these texts for class would be ideal fodder for one... |
