First prize: £25,000. Open only to published authors (sadly). Judges include A.S. Byatt & Nick Hornby. Full details: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/books/article6 817172.ece Quite a few RCMB members are published authors (unlike me), so I thought I'd give you guys a heads-up about this competition. |

What does published writers mean? Does any of the stories I have in the Small Press count? |

I would think so, chief. Quote: The authors must have been previously published in the UK or Ireland. Entrants must submit seven copies of one short story (maximum length 7,000 words). Manuscripts must be typed and double-spaced and the word count should be detailed on the entry. The author must include a list of his or her most recently published work including the publisher, date of publication and ISBN or ISSN. |

ISBN or ISSN is usually the marker in such cases. Is there no entry form and further details? I just looked but couldn't open the link. |

That's because the link can only be opened by respected published authors... |

Steve - yes, I read that part. Does that mean that ISBN does some sort of validity check? |

I can just imagine Julian Barnes saying, "This Frank Duffy, he's not bad for somebody who writes in crayon." |

They're making it as difficult as possible for lesser-known authors to win...or even enter. I can't stand PDF's...especially entry form PDF's. |

Ah, well. My story ,'The Man Who Ate Baslidon' will have to find a more reputable outlet. |

Steve - no, it was co-written with Weber and Craig. You'll know which parts because they're the shit parts. Zed - 'Hour of the Cunt'...with a title like that, and if it really did exist, I think it'd go down a storm if you added Germaine Greer to the judging panel Actually, knowing you, it probably is a story. |

Why not "Cunt of the Hour"? Or is that what they call the writer who wins the award? |

No biographical stories will be considered, Zed. Read the guidelines properly. So you'll just have to send your affectionate portrait of my last fleeting visit to your house somewhere else. |
