I'm trying to be good - honest!

I wanted to take Creatures of the Pool on the plane with me to the States, so I wrote to Pete Crowther and asked if I could collect my copy from FCon instead. I did and the landlord duly inscribed it. But - oh no! - this morning's post contained my original preordered copy!

"Not a problem," I hear you say. "Write to him and confess!"

And I would, but for the fact that I've just changed my email address and, in my usual heedless fashion, deleted everything from my old account, which had the correspondence. Worse, if Pete were to find out I had this copy and write to me to demand its return, he'd get NO REPLY, because I wouldn't get the email. And he might think... oh, the shame! He'd think the very worst!

**sob**

So after much wailing and rending of garments, I appeal to you, kind sirs. How can I save myself from (further) ignomy? Oh, help this fallen woman! My reputation is in tatters!

Fear not, Kate! I shall intervene. Just don't forget my spider...

It's too late! In situations like this, Mr Crowther becomes Pete the Prowler. He stalks by dusk and carries a lethal device ordinarily used for foil stamping hardcover spines, but with his insidious purpose and with his invidious range of invention, it can do things to flesh that are perhaps best not even dreamed about in the safety of a Morpheus embrace. Beware . . .

Oh, bless you, Mr C!
I shall do my best re: your request. I hear they have big ones in the colonies. Spiders, that is.

And Mr F, I have some experience with "lethal devices" and it's taking every ounce of my willpower not to post something very naughty indeed.

You can get giant spiders anywhere. Just download them off the web.

I'm in a similar situation - one entirely of my own making. It would appear I'd pre-ordered Creatures of the Pool, Just Behind You and Terry Lamsley's R.I.P. a long time back, and I forgot I'd done so.
Just before FCon I checked my mails to be sure I'd not pre-ordered, couldn't find any that said I had, and so I bought the three books on saturday.
Then they all turned up again today. I've emailed Pete C. to try to sort it out but it's completely my fault so I understand if I have to keep them. D'oh!

Same here Kate!

I took my pre-orders at Fcon and both books are now waiting at the post office for me.

To be fair, pre-orders should have been sent out prior to the book going on sale, but these things happen of course.

I will post my extras back to PS.

I should mention that Pete is in London for my signing tomorrow and may not respond to emails for a few days.

Is this the one with Bryan Talbot, Ramsey? I wish I could make it down for that, alas I'm not able to because of funds and timing.

It was, Z.

Pete sends this:

"Fear not Mick, Kate and anyone else. If you've bought the books twice then send just send them back -- the address is on the copyrights page. We'll refund your payment or (better still!) we'll send you alternative books if you give us the titles. And GCW . . . the books were delivered to the actual convention hotel just one day before the con started, so it wasn't possible to get pre-orders sent out before the books went on sale."

Kate, I already passed on Pete's message to you.
