I got most of the way through this battered old paperback before noticing that something had bored a hole through it from the bottom edge. The entry hole is a perfect circle, 1/8" diameter. I've only ever seen one book with bookworm damage and it looked exactly like woodworm trails - very thin and wiggly. This looks like something else but I've no idea what. Any ideas?  | ||

It is, John. Staggering, that is. And definitely not her best. I finished it last night and thought it was interesting and I like her "unanswered questions" approach, but I think she bit off more than she could chew. Let me know when you finish it so you can tell me if the last page of mine is missing or not! | ||

There's two things that come to mind (sorry, nothing involving Cthulu): * LPs used to be marked with a hole drilled in the upper left corner of the sleeve to denote it was part of the 'promo inventory'; these days some CDs are marked in the same way for discounting * someone was drilling into a set of shelves to set a new shelf (or something) and got over-enthusiastic as well as not bothering to move the books out of the way either. | ||

"unanswered questions" - yes, and unresolved threads- the only drawback I had against We Have Always Lived In The Castle, which was otherwise lyrical and enthralling. Very interesting, Craig! And I love that picture! Castle is fantastic and doesn't have any loose threads that I can recall. It's just exquisite. Ian: That makes perfect sense and I hadn't even thought of a non-biological cause! Thanks for those theories. |
