Looking at those has made we want to read again some of Bowen's stories. Good work, Des. |

The Cat Jumps has just arrived in my mail, and already it looks like perfect prose, exactly, exactly my cup of tea. (I just got the curious gagging feeling I get in my throat when reading/writing good things; a strange but sure sign of quality (he says). I'd be pleased if someone could tell me what it is...) Des - I got a book by Susan Hill last week. In it she says Bowen is all she could ever hope to be as a writer. |

'The Cat Jumps' is one of the most original, and strangely disturbing haunted house stories I can recall reading. One that really sticks in the mind and defies all the conventions of the form while providing no easy answers. Yes, Tony, she is a great writer, going by my limited experience of her - only read a handful of really excellent short stories. |
