I always look forward to seeing Charles Black produce another Black Book of Horror so I've just ordered No. 8!

Not really trying to promote it here (well, I guess I am - smack me if you wish ) but I thought this might be of interest to many of you here:

I see there are several contributors from this board once more. Looking forward to reading this.

I find them a bit hit and miss, but I think I own them all so far (and I've been in two).

I reckon your "Takashi's Last Symphony" is definitely in my top 5 list of favourite stories from the BBoHs, Zed!

(Have I got the name right in your story title? Not checking - doing it off the top of my head - and my memory's pretty dire nowadays)

I've read the last 3, and plan to get the previous volumes. Brilliant stuff. I've discovered loads of new faves there, and the covers are always delicious.

Gary, you should type more carefully. Or I should wash my mind out with soap.

It's an ambitious series with dizzying peaks and troughs, and the editor's commitment to his own paradoxical aesthetic is impressive. Whether the horror is physical, emotional or spiritual it is always horror. With this series Charles Black has created the anthology equivalent of the great semi-pro horror small press magazines of the past, and we are truly grateful.

Joel, you're a cesspit learned to walk. :-)

Charles is doing a wonderful job with these books and am proud to have been in so many.

Thanks, Caroline. Yep, that's the correct title. The story's a trifle; a bit of a laugh. It isn't really representative of my body of work. (Ooh, don't I sound pretentious?)

>>It isn't really representative of my body of work.<<

I know. I've read some more of your work too, you know.

The thing about the Black Books, as with the Pans, they get writers writing in that particular way. I guess that's the "paradoxical aesthetic" which Joel talks of and which I can hardly pronounce let alone understand!

I've only read the third volume (attracted in no small part by the wonderful cover) and found it a lot of fun. The sixth (or is it the seventh) is on the 'to read' pile. I daresay I'll pick up the others in time...
